1.      Chameleon color change


People are taught that chameleon changes their color because it was to camouflage itself and protect itself from predator. While his statement is not exactly wrong, it’s not exactly right either, chameleon changes their skin color in order to adjust their body’s temperature.

2.      Christopher Columbus, round earth, and America


Contrary to popular belief, Christopher Columbus was not the first person who discovered America and he was not the first one who belied that the world is round. The Viking got to America way earlier than Columbus, and the Greek mathematicians already knows that the world is round.

3.      The Tongue


People are taught that different parts of the tongue detect different tastes, this is also wrong, as all part of the tongue detect different tastes. The tongue contains a specific protein that is used to detect those different tastes.

4.      Abraham Lincoln and slavery


While Abraham Lincoln is a great man, he is not strongly against slavery. In fact, there is this sentence that he wrote back in 1862 which contains his statement of wanting to save the Union without the need to freeing any slaves, well, and fortunately he can’t.

5.      Van Gogh and his ear


The painter Vincent Van Gogh did not cut off his own ear, some also said that he mailed that severed ear to his girlfriend which is also not true. It was, in fact, an argument that caused Van Gogh lost his ear; an argument with a fellow painter that turns ugly and the opponent use his sword to cut his ear off.

6.      Diamonds


The school taught us that when you compress coal high enough, you will get diamonds. It’s not true; diamond and coal are not even found at the same place. The lie sprouts out because both diamond and coal are made up from mostly carbon.

7.      Chimpanzee to human evolution


Many people still believe that human is a direct evolution from chimpanzees, this is not an accurate statement. Chimpanzee and human share common ancestor, but that “ancestor” is not a chimpanzee, chimpanzee and human are two different species.

8.      Space has zero gravity


This is a lie, outer space has gravity, but the value is so low compared to our planet. The gravity in space is actually what makes our planet and moon stay in orbit and those falling meteors and such are actually in a state of free fall due to gravity.

9.      Benjamin Franklin, kite, and electricity


It is believed that Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity when he fly his kite with metal key during a storm, thunder struck his kite and he discovered electricity, this is false, there is actually no proofs whatsoever of this event happening.

10.  Deoxygenated blood is actually blue


No, this statement is actually wrong, even if your blood is not in direct touch with oxygen; your blood color is still red. The rumor starts because when we look at our vein, it is blue in color; it is actually red, light refraction makes it look bluish to our eyes.
